From lucid tints to deep shades of vermillion and leaf-green, the
charm of colour subtleties is reflected in this light-suffused
watercolour rendering of 'the mellow rose of China'.
Light transmitted through both flower and foliage imparts luminosity
to their tints,
while light reflected from the surfaces reveals a range of tones
corresponding to changes of plane on the ruffled flower-petals and on
the conspicuously-veined leaves.
